Welcome to bending spoons

April 19, 2009

Well, nothing like being a little bit late getting this thing back up and running. We got shuffled to a new domain host and thus a new server which really shouldn't affect all of you, other than happening at a time that has caused this issue to be terribly late.

Excuses aside, this quarter submissions were sparse. In the end only one truly challenged us, placed us in an extraordinary situation, forced us to speculate. Fantastically, the author of that singular wonderful piece also endeavored to meet our historical fiction/alternate history challenge posed in January. A great thanks goes out to Jim J. Wilsky for gracing us with his words.

The theme/challenge for the September issue is an autumn setting that does not include Halloween/Samhain/dia de los muertos/etc. Carnivals, harvest festivals are welcome as are any other general autumn setting. As usual, submissions within the challenge are given special consideration, however all SF/F/H/speculative fiction subjects will be considered.

Blog

We have replaced our reviews section with a blog.  That way we can update it everytime there is something new to review or some kind of spectacular SF/F/H news to report.  Click on the links below to be transferred to the blog site and read full text of each entry.

Death Race

I have decided that since Death Race takes place in the future in a world that doesn't exist but could possibly that makes it borderline sci-fi and therefore far more worthy of my review than the last two pictures I saw. Read more.

The Happening

M. Night Shyamalan is back with another creepy feature for our viewing pleasure. Let's face it, The Sixth Sense, at only a PG-13 rating was pretty swell nightmare-fodder, what can the man give us with an R-rating? Read more

Fiction

Jim J. Wilsky - Never Coming Back - How she hates this little God forsaken island. Once she gets off it, she will never visit it or talk of it again. She confirms this with a nod then wipes a second tear away distractedly and runs both hands back through her long gray hair. The wind feathers it out behind her and the scene is reset...  Read full text
